Kamaruzzaman Funerals: The Photo Archive

Heart-breaking scenes and video from the main Janazah of Kamaruzzaman

Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, prominent Islamist leader and senior Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, was buried early on Sunday, 12 April, 2015, at Sherpur. The body of the veteran leader was buried beside an orphanage he founded in Mudipara, at Bajitkhali Union of Sherpur Sadar sub-district at 5:15 am local time.

Earlier, authorities handed over the body of Kamaruzzaman to his family at 4:30 am local time. His elder brother Kafil Uddin accepted his body on behalf of the family.

His funeral prayers were led by Maulana Abdul Hamid, his nephew-in-law. The funeral was attended by family members and hundreds of general people from all walks of life, despite allegations that government authorities and the police administration had tried to restrict people from attending the funeral through intimidation and random unwarranted checks.

His execution took place at 10.30pm local time on April 11 2015, at the gallows stand in Dhaka Central Jail. Following execution, police senior superintendent, Forman Ali, from Dhaka Central Jail issued a statement confirming the execution of Mohammad Kamaruzzaman and his intended burial in Sherpur.

At 11:40pm, an ambulance carrying Kamaruzzaman’s body and escorted by police and Rapid Action Battalion left the jail and drove to Sherpur for burial.

Kamaruzzaman had refused to seek presidential mercy.
